Trips to Italy from French Riviera

Not far from the border you have hidden places which are really paradises like:

  • Portofino: a very lovely place which seems outside the modern world.
  • Cinque Terre: five villages hanging over the sea which you can reach only by a tiny train tunnelling in the mountain or by a narrow path along the cliff. Of course there are no cars and you feel back into the XIX th century. It is breathtaking.
For shopping, you should go to Bordighera which has a great market or Mondovi with a terrific discount shopping center rather than to Vintimiglia (now a tourist trap). In Vintimiglia, be ware that brands are a bargain but fake and that if you bring them back to France you may have them confiscated, be fined and even end up in jail. French industry loses billions of dollars because of copying and our custom police is very tough.

From Vence it is very easy to extend your trip to Italy. Depending on the time you have available, you can discover Milan, the northern lakes (Como, Garda, Maggiore…), San Remo, Venise (plus Padova, ...), Florence (plus Sienna, Pisa, ...), Rome, ...

If you stay at an accommodation of mines, I can give you a lot of hints to make such a trip non expensive & valuable.
